Main School

The Main School caters for children aged from 4 to 11 in small classes of no more than 18. The curriculum is broad based and concentrates on developing the individual strengths of each child. We work in line with the National Curriculum and take part in the Government’s Key Stage tests alongside Common Entrance and other public external examinations. The school gates open at 8.30am, followed by a daily assembly. Morning lessons are divided by a 30 minute break. At lunch time pupils sit down together for a freshly prepared hot meal. The day finishes at 3.30pm when after-school activities begin.

Good use is made of information technology throughout the school in a dedicated computer suite. We also have art, music and drama departments. As the world shrinks and we become increasingly European, we try to reflect this change in our teaching, so French is taught from Reception and there is an introduction to Spanish in Year 6. We also teach Latin from Year 3 to underpin our English syllabus.

Learning Support
Taking children as we do from 2 years, it is almost inevitable that a small percentage of them will be found to have a specific learning difficulty of some kind during their years with us. In order to address this, we actively screen for learning difficulties between 6 and 7 years and involve the parents in any remedial strategies.
Fairness, self-discipline and a well-rounded character are attributes we encourage and we hope that our children will go on to make a positive and valued contribution to the world in which they live.
