Dormer House School Parents & Friends
The Dormer House Parents & Friends meet regularly during the course of the school year. Our main role within the school is to provide support where appropriate and most importantly, to raise additional funds to benefit the pupils of Dormer House. Over the last few years, with generous contributions, we have raised enough money to stock the library, provide a new sound system for the Drama department as well as funding extra art and sports resources.
Funds raised also go towards extra "treats" for the children including those at Christmas and end of year Leavers' gifts. As a group, we support school events in many other ways i.e. decorating Batsford church for the Carol service and offering refreshments at most events within The Dormer House calendar.
Last year our focus was to support Dormer in gaining the Healthy Schools status. We held various fundraising events including a series of information mornings (ranging from selling on Ebay to homeopathy), an Abba film night and a fabulous summer cocktail party. Some of the funds raised have been used to purchase a set of kitchen equipment for the benefit of the whole school. We hope this will offer an additional resource in the classroom to enhance the teaching of various subjects within the curriculum including maths and science. Already Mrs Kropf has made good use of it during the annual marmalade making session!
Funds remaining from last year will go towards brightening up/refurbishment of the school cloakrooms which we hope will be completed by the end of the school year.
So what does this year hold? Already we've raised funds by producing a school tea towel (a few left which will be available at future bake sales), Christmas cards, a Christmas gift bazaar, our termly second-hand uniform sale and the fortnightly bake sales. Our plans for the rest of the year include a film night, a children's event in the spring, the annual end of year disco and an adults’ summer party.
The P&F meet regularly, usually after drop off - details are posted on the school newsletter. Everyone is always very welcome - new faces and ideas are important and appreciated. Please don’t feel that you have to be formally involved if you can only manage to attend now and again. Please do contact us if you require any further information or if you would like to help at any of the forthcoming events.
